Abstract
663,413. Clinometers and sighting levels. HATFIELD, P. W. Feb. 24, 1950 [April 4, 1949], No. 9109/49. Class 97 (ii) In a clinometer or level in which a tube A, Fig. 1, is sighted on an index line on a plate carried by a staff, a pendulum K encircles the supporting pole T and is suspended therefrom by a double ball joint. The tube A is provided with an eye-cap B, having an eccentric eyehole, and a sighting vein cap C is mounted by screws E in a bracket D, Fig. 4, to which bracket F is secured. A pointer G co-operating with a scale N on the pendulum is fastened by screws H, J, to the bracket F, screw J passing through a slot M in the pendulum for securing the pointer to the pendulum at any angle. Pivots L allow rotation of the tube A and bracket D relative to the pendulum. Two sockets 0 on the pendulum, balls P and spindle Q constitute the double ball joint, the spindle being rotatable on plate R by means of its pin S. The heads W of the tripod legs are attached to brackets U, which slide upon the steel strips V secured to the pole T, thumbscrews Y being provided for screwing into holes in the strips. Clips Z hold the legs when not in use. As applied to a sighting level, tube A is screwed to the pendulum and the pointer and scale assembly is omitted.
