Abstract

663,328. Lift-cage guides. WAYGOODOTIS, Ltd. Aug. 8, 1949. [Aug. 10, 1948] No. 20549/49. Class 78 (iii). [Also in Group XXXIV] The guide shoes for a lift car or counterweight each comprise a U-section slipper 20, engaging the guide rail 14, a housing 21 secured to the car or counterweight and compressed rubber plugs 34 located between the slipper and housing to reduce noise. These plugs have metal plates 38 moulded to their ends and are compressed by plates 42 bolted to the external faces of the housing. An odd number of plugs are provided on each side of the housing so that when some of them are removed to reduce the force exerted on the slipper a symmetrical arrangement can be retained to again exert a balanced force. A plate 48 secured to the housing prevents separation of the slipper and housing in the event of a complete failure of all the plugs, and, in the event of failure of the plugs on one side only, the plugs on the other side are long enough to take up the play. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), plugs are also included between the rear walls of the slipper and housing. The slippers 20 are made from a graphite impregnated phenolic material or cast iron or bronze.
