785,037. Hinges. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Nov. 27, 1953], No. 24287/54. Class 65(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] In an elactromagnetically operated friction brake, the pivotal joints between shoecarrying levers 4, 5 and a base 6 comprise cylindrical segments 34 on the ends of the levers engaged in part-cylindrical sockets in the base. The joints are held in place by retaining pins 35 which project from the segments 34 into openings 36a formed in mounting plates 36 mounted on base 6. The bearing surfaces of each joint are lubricated by means of a pad 40 of absorbent material such as felt saturated with a suitable lubricant. Upon brake release pivotal movement of a lever acts to compress slightly the pad to permit some of the lubricant to flow into the joints. The pad also acts as a seal to prevent the ingress of foreign matter on to the bearing surfaces.
