Abstract
662,917. Electromagnetic switches. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Oct. 28, 1949. [Nov. 11, 1948] No. 27725/49. Class 38 (v). [Also in Group XL (b)] A switch is operated by a unit including two U-shaped leaf springs 1 and 2 which are tuned to different frequencies of vibration and are secured to a supporting plate (not shown) through holes 3 and 4. Members 5, 6 and 7 project from the supporting plate and carry an electromagnet 8, shown largely broken away. One limb of each spring vibrates in an air gap of this magnet, either 13 or 14. A permanent flux is also maintained in the magnetic circuit by magnets 25 and 26. When electric oscillations of the frequency of either vibrating spring occur in a circuit connected to magnet 8 resonance is set up and the oscillations of the limb not in the magnet gap become sufficient to operate a ratchet and pawl mechanism. As shown in Fig. 2 the mechanism 19 associated with one spring drives a shaft 15 in one direction and the mechanism 18 associated with the other spring drives shaft 15 in reverse. Thus electric contacts 23 may be opened or closed by a cam 20 on shaft 15 according as to which resonant frequency is transmitted by a signalling system to electromagnet 8.
