662,114. Television. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd., BIRKBECK, G., and PHILLIPS, S. J. July 18, 1949, No. 18913/49. Class 40 (iii). A cabinet for a television receiver of the type in which a picture image is produced by optical projection'on to the back of a translucent screen 21 along a projection axis which is substantially horizontal, comprises a part 15 carrying the screen and pivoted to the main body of the cabinet at 22 so as to be movable from a closed position (Fig. 2, not shown) in which it is partially housed within the body to an open position (as shown) in which the screen is brought to the correct viewing position in relation to the cathode-ray tube projection apparatus 12. A spring-urged flap 30 engages the face 18 of part 15 and ensures that no opening into the cabinet occurs with the pivoted part in the open position. In an alternative construction of part 15, the edge between faces 17 and 18, and the rear edge of face 18 are of equal radii from pivot 22 so that the edges coincide with the forward edge of top 29 in the open and closed position respectively. In a further alternative construction, face 18 of part 15 is omitted and a flap of equal size is pivoted at the front edge of top 29, the flap occupying the place of face 18 and enclosing the apparatus when the pivoted part is in the open position, and covering the screen 21 when in the enclosed position. An on-off switch is operated by the pivoted part to switch on the receiver when the part is moved to the open position. The operating controls are carried by the pivoted part so that they are concealed within the body when the pivoted part is closed.
