660,847. Binders for periodicals &c. PRACHE, A. Sept. 16, 1949 [March 3, 1949], No. 5877/49. Class 146 (i). A binder for periodicals, booklets or the like comprises a cover 1 to the back 2 of which is secured, directly or indirectly adjacent each inner end, a flexible helically wound member 5, and a plurality of interchangeable rods or stems 6, to be engaged between the leaves of the booklets, the bent extremities 7 of which are adapted to be inserted and retained between the adjacent convolutions of the members 5 to retain removably the booklets in the cover. The members 5 may engage through holes in the cover back 2 or, as shown in Fig. 1, through holes 4 in an inner fitting 3 fixed to the back 2 along the side edges. In a modification, the ends only of the members 5 are engaged in holes in a pair of strips fitted to either side of the back 2. As shown in Fig. 4, to assist in retaining the rod ends, a slit strip 10, of leather or other supple material, may be inserted in each member 5, the ends 7 of the rods 6 passing through the slit 11. The ends 7 of the rods 6 may have a T, L, U, 0, C or other shape, or may have a buckle to engage about a strip 10 inside the helix 5.
