Abstract

658,471. Centrifugal separators. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Oct. 10, 1949, No. 25989. Convention date, Aug. 4. [Class 23] In a method of treating hot gases for separation therefrom of solids entrained therein, a current of cold air to which a rotational movement has been imparted, imparts this movement to the hot gases whereby the solids are centrifuged therefrom without any substantial mixing of the air and gases. The separator comprises a chamber 4 having a distributer 2 for the cold air 11, a collector 5 for the cold air and separated solids, and inlet and outlet pipes 1, 7 for the hot gases 10. In a modification, the inner wall of the separator is frustoconical. The separator may be mounted on the gas outlet of a furnace or may form part of the combustion chamber of a turbine or boiler.
