Abstract
656,577. Seed sowers. HUGHESDON, W.G. July 21, 1948, No. 19572. [Class 6(i)] A seed sower, of the type wherein a plunger 11 having a seat 13 on its upper surface to accommodate a single seec reciprocates vertically t( carry seeds from a hopper 4 up to an outlet 8, is charac terized in the provision of a baffle 10 projecting down wardly from the upper edge of the outlet to deflect seed into the outlet tube 9. The hopper is in two parts with an upper reservoir 2 feeding seed through a neck 6b into the lower chamber 4, the size of the neck being adjustable by a sliding panel 6a. Th outlet tube 9 leads into delivery tube 27 terminating in a coulter 28. In a modifica tion, the baffle 10 and the end of the tube 9 are extended to form a box and the plunger reciprocates through an aperture in the base of this box. A number of the units shown in Fig. 1 are mounted side-by-side on a wheeled structure, Fig. 7, towed by a tractor, the units being secured by brackets 20 so as to be adjustable along a bar 16. All the plungers are engaged together by a bar 21 reciprocated vertically by eccentrics 22. These are driven by belts 23 and by a flexible shaft 26 from the tractor power take-off. Alternatively the plungers may be reciprocated pneumatically.
