Abstract

656,324. Brake shoes. SOC. LE CARBONELORRAINE. Jan. 4, 1949, No. 173. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1948. Addition to 624,614. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A brake shoe of the type described in the parent Specification comprising a cast-iron mounting formed around pieces of carbon is characterized in that the mounting is formed of a sintered supercarburated (i.e. over 5 per cent by weight of carbon) cast iron. The brake shoe is formed by moulding under pressure at between 850‹ and 1120 ‹ C. calculated amounts of finely divided natural amorphous or artificial graphite and metal powder mixed together. Additions of nickel, cobalt, copper, tin, &c. to a total of less than 3 per cent by weight may be added.
