653,421. Electric gaseous discharge tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Oct. 20, 1948, No. 27313. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1947. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] The invention relates to electric gaseous discharge devices, particularly fluorescent or germicidal lamps, whereby the radiant flux output is improved by the addition of a small quantity of antimony, as free metal or in the form of certain compounds, to the envelope of the lamp, particularly when the envelope is a soda-lime or borosilicate glass, and contains a metal vapour. The antimony may be added directly on to the inner wall of the envelope admixed with a lacquer, or may be applied during or after the addition of fluorescent material. Examples are given, which include the use of zinc, beryllium manganese silicate, ZnF2, PbO, AS2O3, magnesium tungstate, barium lead silicate, calcium lead manganese silicate, either single or in compound as a lamp phosphor.
