Abstract
652,821. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and BUTLER, H. J. Sept. 22, 1948, No. 24753. [Class 103 (i)] A brake, particularly for aircraft, is provided with discs having discontinuous radiallyextending surfaces adapted to allow the passage of air substantially radially therethrough in combination with loose friction facings adapted to rotate therewith. As shown in Fig. 2 and section AA of Fig. 1, the disc 1 has a conical-shaped hollow recess 3 therein through the walls of which extend inclined holes 4 by which, during rotation, air is caused to flow out over the friction facings 6. As shown in Fig. 3 and section BB of Fig. 1, the air passages are formed by radially extending inclined grooves 12 alternately disposed on each side of the disc. In Fig. 4 and section CC of Fig. 1 the grooves 13 are not inclined and the disc has therefore a central web of uniform thickness. Various types of the loose friction facing 6 are also described.
