Abstract

652,714. Yielding bearing supports. SCRAGG & SONS, Ltd., E., and SCRAGG, E. P. R. July 30, 1948, No. 20292. [Class 12 (i)] A lower bearing for a textile spindle comprises a metal footstep bearing mounted in a resilient socket made of a material such as artificial rubber which will not be injured by oil, the socket being carried in or on a plug mounted inside an external bolster tube by which the whole bearing is secured to the bottom end of the spindle bolster. As shown, the lower end of the spindle 3, inside the spindle bolster 4, is supported and rotates in a cup-shaped footstep bearing 6 housed within a resilient socket 7. Outside the socket 7 is a hollow plug 8 having a screwed flange 9 provided with gaps 10. The plug 8 is screwed into an external tube 11 which in turn is screwed on to the bolster tube 4, an oil-proof washer 13 being interposed between the flange 9 and the end of tube 4. Alternatively, the resilient socket may be bonded on top of a plug screwed into the base of the bolster tube.
