Abstract
651,991. Hay-making. BAMFORD, C. J. and BAMFORD, H. V. April 3, 1948, No 9410. [Class 6(iii)] Relates to swath turners having one or more raking heads 61 and/or side delivery rakes which comprise a pair of rotatable discs or spiders 21, 24 spaced apart laterally of the machine and connected by bars 25 having tines 26. According to the invention means are provided for driving the heads 61 and discs 21, 24 from a tractor power take-off shaft, the means comprising a longitudinal transmission shaft 66, 52 coupled at its forward end by a shaft 68, 53 to the tractor take-off shaft, this transmission shaft being coupled by gearing to a driving shaft or shafts driving the head or discs and disposed in a position laterally offset from the transmission shaft. As shown in Fig. 1 the shaft 52 drives a cross-shaft 56 which is connected by gearing to the shaft carrying the disc 24. The machine frame is mounted on a cranked axle 13 which is raised and lowered by a handle 41 connected by links to an adjustable castor wheel 28. As shown in Fig. 4 the shaft 66 drives a transverse shaft 62 through worm and wheel gearing the shaft 62 driving two heads 61 through bevel gearing. The machine is mounted on a frame connected to the tractor and an adjustable castor wheel 82 is provided. Specifications 520.203 and 527,981, [Group XXVIII], are referred to.
