[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups XIII and XX] In a photographic developing apparatus, the opacity of the developed photographic film is maintained substantially constant by adjusting the time for which developer is applied to the film in accordance with the opacity of the film as measured by means of a lamp 103 and a photo-cell 105. The amplified out-of-balance output of the cell and an opposing standard potential supplied by battery 114 is employed to drive a reversible A.C. motor 106 which moves the developer applicator 64 about the drum 12 around which the film F passes, so as to alter the time for which developer is applied to it prior to applicator of fixer by the applicator 65.
