Abstract

651,421. Curving. EUMUCO (ENGLAND), Ltd. Aug. 18, 1948, No. 4813. [Class 83 (iv)] In a reciprocating machine for bending plates up to 4 inches thick and 60 feet long the bending block is made lower on one side to permit a long work-piece to be bent without raising the unbent portion from the work support. A bending tool 16 is reciprocated by a fluid cylinder 15 coupled to a cross-head 17. The workpiece is supported on a bevelled bar 23 adjustable for varying the curvature of the bead by a plurality of screw gears from a common shaft 29 driven by an electromotor and a support 20 at a lower level than the bar 23 and fitted with wearing faces 21, 22 and a ramp 140. The work-piece is fed intermittently by a pusher 34 operated by a fluid cylinder 35 over a table 33 with hinged resilient support 134 and fluidpressure support 133. When the work-piece is bent to half-cylindrical form it is moved by a pusher 40 operated by a fluid cylinder 41 on to the table 33 reversed by hand and fed in again by the pusher 34 to complete bending to shape 60, Fig. 1. Hooks 42 and chains 43 may be released to the pushers to assist the feed. Rollers 50, 51 guide the plate edges.
