Abstract

651,037. Pipe joints. STEWARTS & LLOYDS, Ltd., and BLAIR, J. S. July 24, 1948, No. 19864. [Class 99(i)] In a joint between a ferrous pipe 6 and a ferrous pipe flange or other fitting, both parts are machined or otherwise sized to a set taper, fitted together and then secured by a capillary layer of solder 10; the external surface of the inner part and the internal surface of the outer part taper convergently and divergently towards their respective ends. Preferably, one or both of the parts are tinned prior to fitting them together, the heat being applied before and/ or after fitting. As shown, the tapered surfaces are so chosen that the two pipes do not abut or when connected to a T-piece project into the bore of the transverse branch thereof. Specifications 585,945 and 590,023 are referred to.
