650,974. Winding yarn. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 6013. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1940. [Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii)] Apparatus for winding yarn on to a rotatable bobbin 15 &c. comprises traversing mechanism 18 adapted to move back and forth longitudinally of the bobbin &c. and a yarn guide 24 pivotally mounted at 22 on the traversing mechanism so that it may oscillate with respect thereto in order that the yarn may be laid at random on the bobbin &c. The yarn guide may be attached to a block 23 which, at both ends of the traverse, turns about its pivot 22 and contacts a spring 21 so that the guide may " bounce " in a random manner. In a modification, the guide member may be attached to a mutilated disc pivotally attached to the traverse bar, the centre of gravity of the disc being below its pivot to give random rotation of the disc. The yarn from supply 1 passes through tension devices 5, 6 and is rigid at 8, 9 before collection on the bobbin &c. 15. A shield 16, which may be provided with a heating element 17 to dry the size, may partially surround the bobbin &c. 15. U.S.A. Specification 2,278,902 is referred to.
