Abstract
650,448. Thermionic valves. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. March 7, 1947, No. 6493. Convention date, May 6, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] A tensioning arrangement for a filament 4 comprises a hairpin spring having a middle portion 7 of V-shape and linear end portions 20, 21 which are deflected from the unstressed positions 15<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> to provide a predetermined tension. Tabs 5, 6 on the filament are welded to the spring and to a support 3. A second support 2 with welded cross-arms 11, 13 carries the spring, the ends of which are welded at 17, 18 where heating does not affect the tension of the filament. The filament 4 passes through triangular slots 31, Fig. 7, in upper and lower mica discs 27 between which the other electrodes 29, 30 are mounted, the filament being pulled into a corner of one slot and on to an edge of the other slot.
