[Class 68 (i)] A double-ended combined planer and loader C is guided along a face by a foot piece 22 having secured thereto a guide beam 15 sliding in a groove 14 formed in an inclined ramp B secured to the side 10 of a scraper chain conveyer A. The assembly C is loosely attached to the foot piece by a bolt 21 mounted on the foot piece substantially at right angles to the inclined plane of the ramp. The force on the cutting blade 17 of the planer as it is urged into the face causes the planer to rotate about the pivot pin a limited amount with the result that the following idle cutter 18 is clear of the face and friction is reduced. This movement also results in the lower portion of the cutting blade 17 being forced downwards towards the floor. An endless rope 16 is connected to the ends of the beam 15 for haulage purposes.
