Abstract
649,957. Pipe joints. SPENCER (MELKSHAM), Ltd., and VINCENT, F. May 14, 1948, No. 13254. [Class 99(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A pipe joint in a pneumatic pipe line (pressure or vacuum) for conveying grain &c. having an apertured plate a, Fig. 4, rotatable by a lever l for controlling the flow therethrough, comprises a seat member e, Fig. 3, welded to a short pipe c disposed at the end of the line and adjacent the plate a, and a seat member f between the plate a and the flange g of a pipe d. Studs k secured to the member f and passing through the member e and the flange g are loaded by springs h secured by nuts i to provide an air-tight connection whether the plate a is in its open or closed position. One of the studs k provides a pivot for the plate a. In a modification, where the joint is located remote from the end of the line, the seat member e is welded to a short length of pipe which is telescopically arranged within the pipe c and provided with an air-tight gland carried on extensions of the studs k.
