Abstract

649,833. Thermal switches. BEST PRODUCTS, Ltd., and BEST, F. L. May 3, 1948, No. 12045. [Class 38(v)] A kettle or other electrically heated device is provided with a bimetal helix 24 which rotates and opens a switch on over-heating. The helix is enclosed in a casing 21 to the bottom of which it is secured by means of a ferrule 22. The ferrule enters the lower end of the helix and the two parts are clinched together by pressure applied to the outside of the casing 21 which is soldered to the arms 11, 12 of the heater. The upper end of the helix has a shank 25 fixed to it by a pin 26, the shank carrying an arm 27 which engages a spring 30 carrying a movable contact 31 as shown in Fig. 2. Contacts 31, 32 are separated if the kettle attains a temperature above that of boiling water.
