Abstract
649,221. Epicyclic gearing. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and WEAVING, J. H. Oct. 25, 1948, No. 27629. [Class 80(i)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXVIII] Phase adjustment of the timing drive 10, 13 to a diesel engine fuel injection pump 40 is effected by turning the normally stationary reaction annulus 26 of an epicyclic gearing 26, 22, 23, the normal ratio change between the driving planet carrier 20 and the driven sun 23 rigid with an output shaft 13 powering the pump 40 being compensated for by driving the carrier 20 from an input shaft 10 through a second similar epicyclic gearing 15, 21, 18, having a fixed reaction annulus. The annulus 26 may be turned manually by a hand-wheel 29 acting through worm gearing 28, 27, or automatically under governor or engine suction control. The input and output shafts may interchange functions.
