Abstract

648,222. Treating gases with liquids. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Dec. 22, 1948. No. 33088. Convention date, April 1. [Class 55(ii)] In a bubble tower, a separate support structure is provided for each pair of plates and comprises an open frame truss member extending laterally of the tower, upper and lower chord portions in the truss being secured at their outer ends to the tower wall, the upper chord forming the principal support for the upper plate of said pair and the lower chord forming-the principal support for the lower plate. In the form shown, the truss member extends diametrically across a cylindrical tower 1 and consists of an upper chord 8 and a lower chord 9 connected together by struts 10 and diagonals 11. The chords are supported at their ends on angle pieces 12 secured to the tower wall, angles 13 being secured to each chord so as to extend normally from the chord to the tower wall. Bubble plates 2 and 3 carrying caps 4 and downcomers 5, are secured on each chord and its associated supplementary supports 13, the plates being formed with flanges 2a and 3a which co-operate with an L-shaped plate 15 to form a liquid seal.
