[Classes 44 and 89(ii)] A quick-release device for a parachute harness comprises a movable member for engaging fastening members arranged at the free strap ends of the harness and a handle connected with the movable member arranged at an edge of the release device enabling the user to get a firm grip for release. In the form of Figs. 1 and 2 the movable member 1 is adapted to slide longitudinally in a rectangular frame 6 having slots 9 to receive the strap fastenings, which are closed by arms 2 on the member 1. A catch 10. mounted on the frame 6, normally engages an aperture 22 to retain the member 1 in the fastening position, and is lifted by the inclined surface of a piston 13 actuated by a pressbutton 16 through a push rod 14, The catch is protected by a hood 18. When the push-button is pressed the handle 3 may be pulled to slide the member 1 to the releasing position. The handle may comprise two symmetrical arms 5 as shown in Fig. 1, or it may be of ring shape and cranked away from the body of the user. Alternatively, as in Fig. 8, the handle 3 may comprise a single arm the upper end of which is fixed to an extension of the locking bolt, the arm itself being substantially parallel to the adjoining edge of the casing. The fastening members are adapted to be expelled from the upper slots 9 by curved surfaces 24 on the locking bolt. In the form of Fig. 9, the locking member 1 is circular and adapted to be rotated by a handle 3 at one side The slots 9 are closed by hook parts 2 on the member 1 which are formed with surfaces 26, 27 to expel the strap fastenings on rotation. The handle 3 is formed with finger grooves 3<2> to prevent slipping and carries a release button operating in a manner similar to that described above.
