Abstract

643,149. Discharge apparatus. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS, Inc. Feb. 14, 1947, No. 4343. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] A header 13 carrying an electrode assembly 17 is sealed to the bulb of an electron tube 8 by supporting the bulb, mouth uppermost, at one station of an intermittently-rotated turntable, placing the header on the open mouth and heating the adjacent peripheries of the header and mouth. Neutral gas is admitted by pipe 9 to the interior of the bulb which, together with the weight of the header, causes the mouth of the bulb to take the somewhat bulged form shown in Fig. 2. The assembly is now indexed to the next station where rollers 19, 20 are permitted to descend into contact with the bulb and complete the fusion and shaping as shown in Fig. 3.
