[Class 103 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A valve of the type used in hydraulic braking systems to maintain a certain minimum pressure in the brake cylinders after the master cylinder has been operated to release the brake shoes is constructed so as to provide a much more rapid reduction of pressure down to the minimum required, than that provided by the usual poppet valves. The supply from the master cylinder is led in by a central port 36 and deflects a diaphragm 30 against the action of spring 18 so that the hydraulic fluid is able to pass on to the brake cylinders by way of annular recess 39 and outlet connection 38. The increased area of flow due to the large valve seat 34 provides for a rapid reduction of the pressure down to that at which the spring 18 and cap 16 shuts the valve.
