Abstract

641,720. Stuffing-box substitutes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 25, 1947, No. 8132. Convention date, March 27,1946. [Class 122(v)] In a seal for a rotatable shaft 7 passing through a wall 11 having different pressures on its opposite sides, a collar 21 on the shaft fits into a recess 20 formed in the wall, a resilient gasket 15 engages the shaft and overlies the collar 21 and an adjacent part of the wall, and the gasket is arranged to make an air-tight fit with the said part of the wall. An oil impregnated disc 16 surrounds and lubricates the shaft immediately above the gasket and a retaining ring 17 clamps the outer edge of the gasket to the wall and also maintains the assembly in position.
