Abstract

640,276. Extrusion machines. CLINEFELTER, J. C. July 23, 1947, No. 19825. Convention date, Jan. 13, 1940. [Class 87 (ii)] Extrusion apparatus comprises a chamber B having an extrusion outlet C, a cylindrical feeding passage housing a screw conveyer A, a perforated member G between the conveyer and the outlet, and an impeller H mounted behind the perforated member, the crosssectional area of the chamber immediately behind this member being greater than the cross-sectional area of the feeding passage. The perforated member G may take the form of a fine circular screen backed by a strong circular member g also perforated. In a modification (not shown) the backing member g takes the form of a strong coarse screen welded to a positioning annulus. The rim or the annulus of the backing member has a circular heating chamber G<SP>3</SP>. The impeller H, Fig. 4, is secured to the end of the conveyer A by machine screws, a land H<SP>2</SP> formed on the impeller fitting into a groove in the end of the conveyer. The leading surface H<SP>3</SP> of each blade forms an acute dihedral angle with the screen G, the trailing edges H<SP>4</SP> being continuous with each other and disposed very close to the screen. The apparatus may include a core C<SP>1</SP> screwed on to a spider C2. Set-screws E<SP>2</SP> engaging the edge of the spider C<SP>2</SP> are used to centre the core.
