[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A device for maintaining parallelism between an upper die-supporting plate associated with the head of the press and a lower die-supporting plate associated with the bolster of the press, the two plates being movable towards and away from each other, comprises a member adapted to be interposed between one of the plates and its associated head or bolster, the member having a flat surface for engagement with the head or bolster and a curved adjusting surface for engagement with a complementary adjusting surface on the plate. Figs. 1 and 2 show an example in which the device is in the form of a plate 30 which has a flat upper side that lies against the press head (not shown) and a curved lower side that co-operates with the curved upper surface 17 of a plate 10 which carries a die part (not shown). The plate 10 has a stem 18 carrying a split sleeve 20, by which it is engaged in the socket of the press head, and is held in position on the press head by means of studs 35 which extend through the press head and through openings 34 in the plate 30 and are threaded into the plate 10. The plates 10, 14 are normally parallel to each other. If they depart from parallelism they can be adjusted back to normal by loosening the studs 35, moving the plate 30 laterally, and tightening the studs. A lower plate 14 carries another die part (not shown) and guides 15 in which work leader pins 12 secured to ears 11 on the plate 10. Both plates 10 and 14 may be adjustable. Fig. 5 shows a modification of the plate 30, the plate having a flat upper surface, which seats on the head, and a curved lower surface which seats on a correspondingly-shaped surface 42 on an intermediate plate 40 having a flat lower surface 41 that engages the top of the die-supporting plate. These plates 30, 40 may have their curvature reversed, as in Fig. 1. The dies may move not vertically, as shown, but horizontally. Fig. 6 shows a modified stem comprising a partspherical inner sleeve 50 surrounded by a split outer sleeve 53.
