Abstract

638,609. Gas compressors. YORK SHIPLEY, Ltd. (York Corporation). Feb. 18, 1948, No. 4794. [Class 8(i)] A compressor having a ring type unloading valve comprises a cylinder sleeve 13 having inlet ports 15 and containing a piston 51 having a ring inlet valve 63. The sleeve 13 has a flange 14 secured in a housing 11 by a cylinder head 17 fitted with a ring discharge valve 26 and having a channel 31 in which slides a ring valve 32 biassed to close outlet ports 33 in the flange 14 by springs 34. The ports 33 communicate with an inlet chamber 16. The valve 32 is opened by means of pins 35 passing through the flange 14 and contacting a ring 37 rotatable in 'a groove in the sleeve 13. The ring 37 has cam faces 36 and a gap 41 to which an operating spindle is attached. The spindle is secured to a hydraulic piston and is biassed to open the valve 32 by a compression spring, the valve being closed by lubricating oil pressure acting on the piston.
