Abstract
638,139. Cathode-ray tubes. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 16, 1946, No. 24396. Convention date, June 18, 1945. [Class 39 (i)] In a cathode-ray tube in which the luminescent screen on the end wall of the tube acquires a high potential due to secondary emission, a ring or loop of metal wire or band encircling the envelope in the region of the end wall is held at a potential similar to that acquired by the screen, in order to minimize current leakage through the envelope to the tubesupporting structure. The conducting band may comprise as shown a wire ring 16, connected through an insulated wire 17 to the terminal 18 of the anode 5 provided as a coating on the interior surface of the tube or as a separate sheet metal electrode. The ring 16 is held in place by a rubber collar 17, which serves to support the tube resiliently in its assembly. The ring 16 may be embedded in the collar 7 to serve also as a reinforcement for the collar, a portion of the collar interposing between the ring and the envelope. A plate 8 carrying calibrations is secured over the face of the tube in a metal frame 9, fitted to the collar 7. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a coating on the envelope may be employed instead of a wire ring. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
