[Class 52 (ii)] A chair of the type, in which the chair back is pivotally connected to the frame and is connected to the seat bottom which is movable relatively to the frame and the seat bottom is itself connected to the frame so that it rises as the back is moved rearwardly preferably so that the rear of the seat rises more than the seat front, is provided with bearing members on the front seat adapted to be guided in inclined slides supported by the chair frame. Fig 3 shows a chair having a folding frame consisting, at each side, of two legs 1a, 1b pivoted together at 1c, a back 3 connected to the rear legs by links 18 and to a longitudinal member 16a pivoted to the front legs at 16, and a seat 6 connected to the back by links 21 and having depending members 22 provided with bearing members 23 adapted to slide in inclined guides 9 carried by the frame. As the back moves rearwardly under pressure by the occupant the seat 6 as a whole moves rearwardly and at. the same time upwardly, the rear rising more than the front. The chair as a whole may be adjusted as to height and the back as to angularity by spreading the legs 1a, 1b which may be done by rotating a member 19 on the rod 16a to move an abutment 19a out of the way of a stop 20 so permitting the legs to be splayed further which also results in adjusting the angularity of the back 3 by the relative movement of the two ends of the links 18. Arms 24 are provided linked to the frame, and foldable with it, by means of links 25. In a modification the frame 32, which may be of the cantilever type, is. provided with plates 44 having a slot 49 for the spindle of the seat rollers 46 and also a projecting runway 45 for the rollers 46. When the seat is unoccupied the chair is locked in its upright position due to the pulling forward of the back 36 by the springs 51 and the raising of the roller spindle into a notch 50 at the end of the slot 47 by springs 49. Fig 6 shows another form of self locking arrangement. The guide 9 of the shape shown is provided with an abutment plate 26 and with springs 27, 28 which when the chair is occupied causes the seat rollers 7 to move to the rear of the guide 9 and to rise behind the vertical edge of the abutment plate 26 and so preventing their movement relatively to the guide 9 until the weight of the occupant depresses the rollers 7 into the lower part of the guide 9.
