636,427. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Nov. 11, 1947, No. 29934. [Class 111] A settling tank 10 has a fixed central vertical feed pipe 14 which acts as a support for the lower end of a vertical spindle 21 mounted in a toe-step bearing 20 on a plate 19 surmounting the pipe 14, the upper end of the spindle 21 rotating in a thrust bearing 26 attached to a fixed cross-bridge 22 spanning the tank centrally, the cross-bridge being thus effectively supported in the middle by the feed pipe 14. A rotating distribution-box 42 carrying skimmers (not shown) and scrapers 46 is attached to, and rotated by, the spindle 21 through gearing 39, 40 connected to a motor 30.
