Abstract

803,593. Gravity-separation apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Jan. 21, 1957 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 4159/56. Class 46. In a sedimentation tank having a central feed box the wall of the feed box forms one wall of an annular or like chamber into which the clarified liquid weirs over and from which it is discharged outside the tank by a pipe, while the sediment settles into the bottom of the tank and is drawn off by a further pipe by hydrostatic head. In Fig. 1 a weir channel 20 is attached to the outside of a feed box 15 suspended from an overhead bridge 14. The top of the outer wall of the channel 20 forms the weir, and a discharge pipe 21 extends radially from the channel. In Fig. 3 the weir channel is formed by the upper part of the feed box wall, by the upper part of the wall of a sludge box 23 and by a horizontal division plate 13. Sludge is discharged by a pipe 22, an adjustable bellmouth 25, the box 23 and a pipe 24. In a further alternative the weir channel may be slung direct from the bridge 14 independently of the feed box.
