[Class 64(iii)] [Also in Group XXII] The elements of a motor vehicle radiator are formed by separate conduits of flattened cross-section provided with cooling fins which are formed on the face of the blank from which the element is manufactured before the blank is deformed to make the element. In one form (Fig. 3), the fins 2 are formed on a tube 1 by rolling, the tube then being deformed to the cross-section shown in Fig. 5. Alternatively, fins 6 are formed on a ribbon 3 (Fig. 9), by making angular slits in the surface of the ribbon and bending the tongues thus formed through 90 degrees. In one form, two parallel rows of fins are formed on the ribbon which is then bent along a longitudinal line lying between the rows to form an externally finned element. In another form a single row of fins is formed on the ribbon which is bent along a transverse line lying between two adjacent fins to form an internally finned element, adjacent elements being connected by rolling or welding along their abutting edges.
