[Class 46] Solid-bearing liquid is fed into the open end of a perforated conduit 20, Fig. 1, having an opening at the top and rotatably mounted between an end-plate 11 and an internal partition 28 of a housing at a velocity sufficient to carry the solids and some of the liquid forward through an aperture in the partition 28 against an adjustable baffle-plate 40 and on to a pair of inclined perforated plates 35, Fig. 5, where more of the liquid is strained away and the remainder carries the solids into rotatable perforated troughs 50 each in two parts between the end plates 11 and partition 28 respectively provided with screw conveyers 52 which discharge the solids through a hollow bearing-structure 65. The liquid is collected at the bottom 10 of the casing. To prevent strained liquid from the conduit 20 and plates 35 reaching the troughs 50 baffle plates 80, Fig. 4. hinged to the top 14 of the casing, are provided at the right of the partition 28, and plates 70 are fixed underneath the perforated plates 35 where they overhang the troughs 50. Baffles 75 hinged to the sides 11 and resting on the edges of the troughs 50 are also provided to prevent solids reaching the bottom 10 of the casing. The casing is provided with covers 12 hinged at 15 for inspection and cleaning of the parts; the conduit 20 has a hinged cover 30, and the plates 35 are hinged at 37 to a longitudinal member 36. Spring latches may be provided for holding the conduit 20 and troughs 50 in their operative positions. The perforations in every case are in the form of slots extending transversley of the direction of flow of liquid, as shown in Fig. 1.
