[Class 146 (i)] A loose-leaf binder comprises a backing piece 1 and cover members 2, a pair of sheet metal plates 9 pivotally secured in opposing relation to the binder backing 1 and formed with a plurality of integral upstanding curved hook portions 10, the hooks 10 of the opposing plates being arranged to co-operate upon swinging the plates 9 inwardly against the backing 1 to form retaining rings and means are provided for locking the plates 9 against the backing 1 with the hooks 10 in cooperative relation. Plates 8 having projecting knuckles 7 and a plate 4 with knuckles 5 either side are secured to the covers 2 and backing 1 respectively and the plates 9 have projecting knuckles 15 between the hooks 10 ; the covers 2, backing 1 and plates 9 being hinged together by pins 6 passing through the knuckles 7, 5 and 15, The locking means comprises a bar 19, with finger piece 21, which is longitudinally slidable between the plates 9 by means of knobs 18 secured to the plate 4 riding in slots 20 in the bar and which has spaced wings 22 engaging over spaced projections 14 on the plates 9 in locking position and registering with the spaces between to release the plates. The corresponding edges of the wings 22 and projections 14 are formed with bevelled surfaces so as to progressively force the plates 9 against the backing 1. The hooks 10 have their edges 11 rolled or swaged over to strengthen them and the hooks 10 on one plate have V-pointed ends 12 co-operating with V- notched ends 13 on the hooks of the other plate.
