[Class 106 (ii)] The head a carrying the stylus e of a surfaceroughness gauging device rests upon or supports the surface d under test and is moved relatively to that surface by the rocking of a lever g pivoted on the head and having a foot b<SP>3</SP> frictionally engaging the surface. The head is also supported from the surface by two other feet c<SP>1</SP>. The lever g is rocked by a device h. The head may be inverted and form the support for the surface.
