[Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] Inking-apparatus.-In an intaglio-printing machine in which the printing-roller 11 is inked by immersion in a trough 15, the wiper blade 16 is adjustably mounted in bars 18, 19 carried by bearing supports carried by a slide 36 reciprocated by a connecting-rod 46 to which is imparted two components of movement operating at different frequencies so as to give a variable movement to the wiper, one complete cycle of variation in the movement being shown in Fig. 6. In Fig. 4, the rod 46 is reciprocated by a crank-pin 58 driven by worm gearing 72, 73, and an eccentric sleeve 54 rotatable on the crank-pin is rotatably attached to the rod 46, and the sleeve 54 is rotated by a gear 61 secured to it and a fixed eccentric gear 67 with internal teeth engaged by the teeth 64 of gear 61. The gearing 61, 67 is enclosed by a cover 75, and the various parts of the mechanism are mounted in ball or roller bearings. In a modification, Fig. 7, the crank-pin 58<SP>1</SP> is adjustably secured to its driving-shaft 59<SP>1</SP> and is fitted with a gear 94 which drives a gear 92 secured to the eccentric sleeve 54<SP>1</SP> by means of pinions 111, 109 mounted in a cap 98 which can slide relatively to the connecting-rod 46<SP>1</SP> to an extent limited by a slot 112 in which is engaged a screw 113 secured to the rod 461.
