Abstract
628,345. Screw fans. MADER, E. A., and SPARGO, J. July 10, 1947, No. 18276. Convention date, May 3, 1943. [Class 110(i)] An impeller comprises a conical carrier 5 having a number of openings 7 closed by blades 8 which are pivotally mounted on pins 10 so as to swing into an impelling position under the action of centrifugal force. Extended portions 9 may act as stops to limit movement of the blades. When the impeller is stationary, the blades are held in the closed position by springs 12. To prevent leakage past the periphery of the carrier, the latter preferably overlaps the opening of a plate 15, with its flange 16 co-operating with a flange carried by the plate to form a seal.
