626,460. Springs. WEST & CO., Ltd., A., and NIBLETT, F. T. April 30, 1946, No. 13016. [Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A shaft 1, of a drum controller for an electric traction motor, for example, rotatably carries two arms 2 and 3. Two clock-type springs 4 and 5 are coiled about the shaft, the opposite ends of each spring being respectively anchored to a different arm so that the springs act to bias the arms in opposite directions. The arms normally come to rest at opposite sides of a stop 10. The arm of a bent lever 11 which is fixed to the shaft extends between the two arms and is held so that the controller is in the " off " position when the arms are against the stop. If a handle is actuated to turn the shaft from this position in either direction, one of the arms is forced away from the stop and both springs are stressed so that, on release of the handle, the controller is returned to the " off " position.
