Abstract

625,749. Covering wire cores by winding. SMITH, R. A. (White Dental Manufacturing Co., S. S.). Dec. 24, 1946, No. 37856. [Class 83 (iv)] In a machine for winding flexible shafts with wires drawn from bobbins wound on a core wire fed through a flyer, a winding head has a resiliently mounted guide nose. A flyer 25 rotated from a pulley 35 carries bobbins 28, 29, 30, 31 from which wires are guided to a winding head 16. The core wire 34 passes through the flyer 25 and winding head 16. Hard surfaced guides 60, 64, 43, 50 direct the wires to a nose 57 slidably mounted by a sleeve 73 in a bush 74 adjusted by a nut 81. During normal winding the sleeve floats between stops, but should the tension increase the nose 57 is pushed rearwardly against the urge of a spring 78. Radial members 67 constrained by the wires fly out centrifugally if a wire breaks and completes an electrical circuit with a member 115 to stop the machine.
