Abstract

625,689. Towelling dispensers. WOOSTER, P. A. Sept. 16, 1946, No. 27743. [Class 18] The dispensing roller 21 of a towelling dispenser is rotated by a handle 28 through worm and wheel gearing 29, 32 so arranged that it is necessary to rotate the handle a number of times to effect one revolution of the roller. As shown towelling from a supply roll 20 supported between two side plates 12, is led between the dispensing roller 21 and a pinch roller 22 which is urged towards the dispensing roller by springs 37 attached to its ends. The gearing is disposed in a casing 25 on the outside of one of the side plates 12, the trunnion of the dispensing roller extending through the side plate 12 to support the gear wheel 32 within the casing and the handle, on which is positioned the worm 29, being supported in bearings in the casing. The worm is rotatable on the handle spindle and is reduced at one end to abut with a collar 30 which is pinned to rotate with the handle spindle. A coil spring 31 is supported around the collar and reduced portion of the worm, the arrangement being that when the handle is rotated in one direction the spring tends to tighten and grip the shanks of the collar and worm to rotate the dispensing roller, but when the handle is rotated in the reverse direction the coils of the spring tend to open and the spring slips over the shanks, thereby preventing reverse rotation of the dispensing roller. In addition, a pawl 34 is adapted to engage the gear wheel 32 to prevent reverse rotation of the dispensing roller. A cover 17 encloses the whole of the side plates and gearing casing.
