Abstract
624,796. Moulding commutator insulation. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. March 17, 1947, No. 7380. Convention date, March 18, 1946. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] The segments of a commutator are held during moulding in a cage composed of a ring of flat bars for holding the segments in position. In the form shown, the bars 4 are placed in radial slots in a ring 1 which is also radially slotted on its under side to accommodate a cranked portion 5, further rings 6, 7 clamping them in place. The commutator segments are placed in the spaces 8 between the bars, and the whole placed in a mould 9. A core 10 carries the commutator hub 11 and a final ring 12 covers the whole assembly and guides the moulding material which is forced down by a ram 13 or sprayed in by a nozzle which takes its place. In the form shown, the bars are shorter than the segments so that spaces 15 are left filled with the moulded material, the connecting leads being soldered at this end. The rods 4, which may alternatively be as long as the segments, may be soldered to the ring 1 or held by other means.
