Abstract

624,506. Windows, ventilators. GENERAL BRONZE CORPORATION. July 9, 1946, No. 20458. Convention date, July 10, 1945. [Classes 20(iii) and 137] A window comprises a slidable main sash C with a hopper sash D pivoted adjacent the lower rail 11 thereof, and weather sealing means between the rails of the two sashes including a resilient weather strip carried by the rail of one sash and located between the two sashes, a projection on the rail of the second sash engageable with the strip, and a flange carried by one of the rails and engageable with the other on the outside of the weather strip. As shown the resilient strips 34, 40, 37 are carried respectively by the upper, lower, and side rails of the hopper, and contact projections 33a, 39a, 36a on the corresponding rails of the sash C, and in the closed position the rails of the two sashes make contact at 32 33, 38 39, 35 36. Resilient metallic weather stripping is also arranged between the sliding sashes B, C and the fixed frame A, and between the rails 6 and 10 of the sashes B, C, and flanges 22 24 on the rail 10 of sash C contact the flanges 23 25 on the rail 6 of sash B to seal the joint between the sashes. The gutter 27<SP>1</SP> in the top rail 27 of the hopper is open at both ends and entraps and discharges any water blown between the members 14, 27. The frames are preferably of light metal, and the glazing held by sealing material 18 and resilient members 19. A high sill portion 41 may be provided so that the lower sash may be raised as in Fig. 5 to provide ventilation between the sashes only as shown by the arrows. The ventilation is controlled by opening sash B and/or sash C and adjusting the hopper D in any of these positions.
