Abstract
623,752. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. SHIELDS, R. (Vickers, Inc.). Aug. 2, 1946, No. 23097. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 2, 1946.]. [Class 135] In a pilot-controlled pressure relief valve, the discharge of fluid from a pressure chamber 12 through passages 56 to an exhaust chamber 14 is regulated by a main valve 72 integral with a piston 74 sliding in a control chamber 36, which is in communication through restricted passages 80 with the pressure chamber and through an axial bore 78 with an adjustable spring-loaded ball valve 62, adapted, when open, to relieve pressure in the control chamber and thus to open the main valve 72. A piston 82, integral with the main valve, is subjected on one side to the exhaust pressure and on the other to control chamber pressure, so that in the normal or closed position the fluid pressure forces on the main valve 72 and the pistons 74, 82 are substantially balanced. A post 92, opening into the control chamber may be connected to a manually actuated exhaust valve, so that the valve 72 may be actuated independently of the pressure in the chamber 12.
