[Class 143] [Also in Groups XXX and XXXVIII] In an apparatus for feeding granular material of the kind referred to in the parent Specification, the arrangement comprises an endless conveyer carried on a frame which is pivotally mounted so as to be capable of rocking up and down beneath a silo, means for varying the speed of running of the conveyer in accordance with variations in the angular disposition of the frame so as to adjust the drive in accordance with the load on the conveyer, and a scraper plate or equivalent which is movable with the frame to remain at a fixed distance above the surface of the conveyer for limiting the thickness of material conveyed to a predetermined amount. The conveyer 1, Fig. 1, which is carried on a frame 3, pivoted at 4, is driven by a sprocket 10 connected by a chain 8 with a sprocket 9 which is rotated by a constant speed motor 16, Fig. 2, and an infinitely variable reduction gear which comprises two pairs of conical wheels 18, 19 which are spaced from one another in accordance with the position of levers 21, pivoted at 20 and actuated by a threaded spindle 22 coupled to a pilot motor 23. This motor is also coupled to a drum controller 26, Fig. 3 which, together with a series of cam operated mercury tilt switches 32 controls movement of a change - over switch 41 arranged to reverse the direction of rotation of the pilot motor 23. The cams which operate the mercuryswitches 32 are actuated by a gear wheel 31, Fig. 3, engaged by a tooth segment 30 connected through links 27, 28, Fig. 1, to the pivoting frame 3, the arrangement being such that variations in the slope of the conveyer 1, due to an increased or decreased weight of conveyed material, control, through the reduction gear, the speed of the belt. The adjustable plate 11, carried by the frame 3 serves to spread the material uniformly on the conveyer belt 1.
