Abstract
623,392. Hot-water tanks &c. WIDD, T. V. May 4, 1946, No. 13587. [Class 64(i)] In a heat-retaining vessel, e.g. a hotwater tank, with inner and outer metal walls, a, b connected together at a mouth or neck so as to enclose a space in which a vacuum or partial vacuum is maintained, a ring c forms a junction between the two walls a, b, or between the inner wall a and a member d carried by the outer wall b, and has means for mounting an immersion heater within the vessel. In the form shown, the member d is an annular web of low heat-conductivity metal, e.g. tinned iron. The space between the walls a, b is evacuated through a copper or other bendable tube e, which after sealing is folded inside the vessel. If re-evacuation is necessary, the tube may be pulled out. The surfaces bounding the vacuum space are polished. In another form, the heat-retaining vessel is enclosed within a cold water tank which has an opening at the bottom opposite the openings in the walls a, b. A flanged ring connects the three casings around these openings, the flange extending into the space between the two inner casings. The ring carries the water inlet and outlet pipes for the heat-retaining vessel. Specification 623,443, [Group XI], is referred to.
