Abstract

622,238. Valve amplifying circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and MACKENZIE, T. H. Aug. 28, 1946, No. 25833. [Class 40 (vi)] In an amplifying stage, the control grid is maintained at a fixed mean potential below that of another electrode, such as the anode, in order that the circuit may be designed without allowing for variations in the values of the components, or between individual valves. This may be done by connecting a battery between the control grid and anode as in Fig. 2 (not shown) or, as shown, by connecting the control grid to the junction of a gas-filled stabiliser or equivalent non-linear resistance 18 and a resistor 19 connected in series between the anode and a source of potential negative with respect to the cathode. Alternatively, the gas stabiliser may be replaced by an ordinary resistor, and resistor 19 by one having a positive voltage coefficient. In either case an A.C. decoupling network is included in the grid connection, and the connection may be made to the screen grid instead of the anode.
