Abstract

621,678. Electric indicating systems for temperature. GALL, D. C. July 16, 1945, No. 18150. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XL (b)] The radiation from a hot body is divided by optical systems 1, 2 into two paths, each path containing a different filter, 4, 5 (e.g. one red and one green), so that cells 6, 7 are each illuminated by light of different wavelengths, and the cells are connected to produce a differential E.M.F., which is used to vary the radiation reaching the cells so as to produce a position of balance. Preferably the E.M.F. is used to vary the position of a shutter 8, and the E.M.F. necessary to produce the balance is a measure of the temperature and may be used to control the temperature of the hot body. The shutter 8 may be a graded obturator.
